On A Lighter Note...
Have you ever wondered what the .1% germ is that cannot be killed? We have all seen these labels on various types of cleaners, touting their ability to kill 99.9% of germs. But what worries me is what is that .1% germ that it cannot kill.
In my way of thinking that is one powerful germ! More powerful than all of the others… The 99.9% that get killed!
What is a germ anyhow? We are warned of them day in a day out. Cleaning products tout their effectiveness to kill the majority of those that occupy our human landscape. Yet, until having done some research, I had no idea what an actual germ is other than it was bad for us - or not.
We are told throughout life that germs can make us sick, and germs can even kill us. So again, what is a germ?
Well… Since you asked, let me see if I can help.
“Germs”, as it turns out, include bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa. There goes my craving for mushrooms sauté’s in oil and garlic! These various germs can be good, or dangerously bad for us humans - as in infections or illness. They accomplish this by invading our bodies and multiply, damaging cells and producing toxins that cause symptoms of illness.
The other bad news - which most of us are already aware of, is that germs spread through different methods including contact with contaminated surfaces, inhaling infected droplets, or through bodily fluids.
It’s the last one that always gives me the willys!
All of that being said, I finally resorted to our most recent information guru: Chat GPT. As we know, it is infallible. (Yes I am being facetious).
However, this is what Chat GPT had to say as its “bottom line”:
There’s no single "0.1% germ" that survives everything. It's more accurate to say that some germs are more resilient or weren’t part of the test set. It's a limitation of testing and labeling—not a loophole for a microbial supervillain.
But in all of my research, I could find no conclusive information on this mysterious .1% Gene.
Is this Gene so deadly that they don’t dare tell us because it would instill such fear in the population, even more than the reality of alien beings from other planets.
Or could it be the “microbial supervillain” that Chat GPT urges us to dismiss? is this microbial supervillain secretly being weaponized, to be used in the acquisition of far off lands
Or is it a Gene that is currently, and secretly, being used by medical research that may present the cure for a plethora of ailments?
The mystery continues to remain a mystery, unless, of course, any of you have insights that I don’t have - in which case I would love to hear from you!
For me, I am holding hope for germ to be a cure for a plethora of ailments.. How about you? Feel free to chime in!

Ruth! That is how we, as kids, developed such strong immune system. For me, spending my summer days swimming in the Ohio River probably helped even more - although, quite possibly, in the form of embalming...
Sister Susan, I completely agree with you, however, that would have made for a very boring post - and you know me, I couldn't resist!! :):)
